New predictions for a rapidly growing market
A new forecast from the technology research firm Gartner shows a lot of promise in the growth behind the mobile app market.
The group expects app store downloads to double worldwide this year reaching 17.7 billion downloads.
Revenue for mobile app downloads in 2011 is expected to reach $15.1 billion, up from $5.2 billion in 2010.
One of the most astonishing figures is that by 2014, 185 billion apps are predicted to be sold worldwide. To put that in perspective, Apple announced on January 22nd that it had experienced its 10 billionth app download.

As for monetization of these apps, Gartner predicts 81% of downloads will be free.
As the mobile device market grows, it’s no surprise that the mobile app market will grow along with it.
